Camp Procedures
How do I drop-off and pick-up my child safely?
  • A designated drop-off/pick-up area will be set up outside, before entering the rooms.

  • All parents dropping off/picking-up are required to wear a face covering.

  • For all participant safety, only participants will be allowed in the classroom area. 

  • Participants will go through a health screening before being signed in and allowed to enter the classroom. 

  • Social distancing protocols will be in place for drop-off/pick-up. It may take 10-15 minutes during this time to drop off and pick up, please allow for additional time.

  • At pick up, parent or guardian will sign out at the registration table. 

  • Staff will radio for your child and will meet you at the end of the ramp. Please do not go directly to the classroom.

What if I need to drop-off my child late or pick-up my child early?
  • A dedicated staff member will be at the drop-off/pick-up table from 7:30-9:30am and again from 4:30-6pm.

  • If arriving late/early, parents should call the main office at 650.558.7300 and a dedicated staff member will come out to assist you. 

  • If there is no answer, please come to the front office and staff will assist you. Please do not go directly to the classroom.

What if I need to contact camp staff during the day?
  • Parents can call the main office at 650.558.7300 and a staff person will forward your message to the appropriate camp staff.  All classrooms will have a walkie-talkie, as well as the front office and registration table.

Do I physically have to sign my child in and out of camp?
  • Yes. Each participant will have their own sign in/out sheet that will only be used by that parent/guardian.

Can my child be signed out and return back to camp?
  • Yes, parents should call the main office at 650.558.7300 and a dedicated staff member will come out to assist you.  Please do not go directly to the classroom.

Can my child be in the same group as their friend?
  • We will be prioritizing family members that are in the same age group.

  • We will do our best to group kids, but camp sizes are small and we cannot guarantee groupings.

  • Please notify Camp Director by Monday, June 22, if you have a special request.

Can my child attend simultaneous summer camps or sports camps?
  • No. Children enrolled in our camps must commit solely to our program and may not attend more than one childcare establishment, summer camp, or sports camp simultaneously.

It's a long session, what if we skip a day?
  • If your camper skips a day not due to illness, you still need to let us know.

  • Please call the main office to notify if your child will not be attending camp.

  • If you have family plans, please keep in mind that any exposure outside of your immediate family can compromise the health and safety of our stable group. Please make your summer plans with this important detail in mind.

Health and Safety
Can participants wash their hands upon arrival to camp? 
  • Yes. Hand sanitizer will be available at the drop-off/pick-up table so participants can sanitize their hands before they enter classroom. Participants will wash their hands upon entry to the classroom.   

Are participants required to wear face masks?
  • *As of July 17th, children ages 2 years and older will be required to wear face coverings.  (UPDATED)

  • A face covering should be removed for meals, snacks, naptime, or outdoor recreation, or when it needs to be replaced.

  • When a cloth face covering is temporarily removed, it should be placed in a clean paper bag (marked with the student’s name and date) until it needs to be put on again.

Will you hand out disposable masks?
  • Participants must bring their own mask to camp.

  • We will have masks on hand in case a camper forgets one or if it becomes dirty or lost throughout the day.

Will staff be required to wear masks?
  • Yes. Program staff are required to wear a mask. 

What precautions are you taking to prevent sick participants?
  • All staff and participants will be screened before entering portables.

  • Temperature checks and health questionnaire will be done. Staff will use a no-touch temporal thermometer.

  • Participants who have a fever of 100.40 (38.00C) or above or other signs of illness will not be admitted.

  • Symptoms include: flushed cheeks, rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (without recent physical activity), fatigue, or extreme fussiness.

How will staff deal with participants who begin to exhibit symptoms during camp?
  • If a participant begins to exhibit any symptoms of illness during the camp day, he or she will be isolated from other participants and their parent/guardian will be immediately contacted for pick-up.

  • Sick staff members or campers should not return to camp until they have met CDC’s criteria to discontinue home isolation.

  • The facility space will be disinfected following CDC guidelines. If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, we will close camp for 24-48 hours, contact all families, and follow CDC guidelines for cleaning and sanitization. 

My child has
seasonal allergies and may be sneezing or coughing at camp, will they be sent home?
  • No.  Parents are encouraged to note on the Emergency Form if their child has a history of allergies. 

  • Per the guidance of the CDPH, seasonal allergies are not a reason to exclude or send home a participant. 

What if a staff member shows symptoms of illness?
  • Any member of the staff beginning to exhibit symptoms during the camp day will be immediately sent home and replaced by a dedicated substitute staff member, not assigned to another classroom.

  • Sick staff members or campers should not return to camp until they have met CDC’s criteria to discontinue home isolation.

  • The facility space will be disinfected following CDC guidelines. If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, we will close camp for 24-48 hours, contact all families, and follow CDC guidelines for cleaning and sanitization. 

Cleaning/Janitorial/Sanitization
What cleaning measures will be taken?
  • A daily cleaning schedule has been developed and posted.

  • Surfaces used frequently will be cleaned throughout the day.  Areas include: counters, tables, chairs, doorknobs, light switches, sink handles, etc.

  • All areas of the rooms used will be sprayed with approved disinfectant at the end of the day and allowed to sit overnight.

  • Non-porous toys such as Legos will be cleaned daily.  Bins will be used to clean and disinfect:

    • Bin 1: Soap and water then rinse

    • Bin 2: Approved disinfectant

    • Bin 3: Rinse

    • Air Dry

Will there be hand sanitizer for participants to use frequently?
  • Yes, participants will have access to hand sanitizer and soap and water for handwashing throughout the camp day. Additionally, participants will be required to wash their hands with soap every time they reenter indoor spaces and prior to eating.

Will bathrooms and classrooms be cleaned frequently?
  • Yes, staff will clean classrooms daily at the end of the day.  Bathrooms will be sprayed with disinfectant throughout the day, when participants will be outside of the room for at least 30 minutes.  Custodial staff will also provide regular cleaning nightly.

Will each camp location have their own bathrooms?
  • Yes. Each classroom is equipped with its own bathroom and will be used only by the camp group assigned to that room.

Camp Program
Will my child have their own supplies or have to share with other participants?
  • Each participant will receive a small amount of supplies assigned only for them to use during the duration of camp.

  • Examples of these item include; scissors, markers, crayons, rulers, and paper. These supplies will be stored in a labeled basket.

  • Per the San Mateo County Health Order FAQs, while within their stable group, children and caregivers/counselors are not required to social distance from each other and may share equipment.

  • Any shared toys or equipment used with the group will be cleaned/sanitized between uses.

Will my child get to take home their completed projects/activities?
  • Yes. Completed projects/crafts will be placed in a bag by your child to take home.

How will you handle behavior issues?
  • Camp structure and activities are specifically designed to promote compliance with social distancing guidelines.  

  • Our staff will work to redirect any challenging behavior and encourage better choices.  

  • Failure to adhere to camp guidelines may result in removal from camp with no refund

How will outdoor spaces be adapted for camp activities?
  • While each camp will have their own dedicated room for indoor activities, participants will use the outside spaces throughout the day. 

  • Camp areas will be clearly marked and closed off from public use.

What will a day at camp look like?
  • A typical day of camp will be a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities.  

  • Most camp activities will happen between 9am-4pm. 

  • Extended Care times, 7:30-9 and 4-6pm will be calmer, individualized activities.

Will there be drinking fountains available?
  • No. Drinking fountains are not accessible to participants. Participants will be required to bring a water bottle to camp each day. 

  • Please note: The water in the portable classrooms is NOT POTABLE.

Will children wash their hands before eating snacks/lunch?
  • Yes. Participants will all wash their hands before each snacks or lunches.

Does the City provide snacks to participants?
  • The City will provide individually packaged snacks in the afternoon only. Participants must bring their own morning snack and lunch daily.

  • Please be sure to note any allergies on the Emergency Form.
